Training Curriculum

1. Introduction to Yoga with Ropes — 1 Hour

  • Welcome and participant introductions

  • History and evolution of Yoga with Ropes

  • Traditional understanding of Kurunta Yoga

  • Physical and mental benefits of the practice

  • Important safety precautions and considerations

2. Types of Yoga Ropes — 2 Hours

  • Different types of ropes and their properties

  • Choosing appropriate ropes for practice

  • Basic knot-tying and rope-handling skills

  • Understanding secure rope anchoring

  • Adjusting rope length and tension

  • Inspecting ropes and equipment before practice

3. Rope Yoga Postures and Alignment — 6 Hours

Introduction to and practice of key postures using ropes, including:

  • Standing postures

  • Supported backbends

  • Forward bends

  • Hip-opening postures

  • Shoulder-opening postures

  • Seated postures

  • Supine and prone postures

  • Supported inversions

Participants will also explore:

  • Alignment principles and anatomical cues

  • Safe entry into and exit from postures

  • Appropriate rope positioning and support

  • Modifications for different body types

  • Variations for physical limitations and different experience levels

4. Sequencing Yoga with Ropes Classes — 2 Hours

  • Principles of sequencing a Yoga with Ropes class

  • Creating balanced sequences for different levels

  • Incorporating joint preparation and warm-ups

  • Integrating traditional yoga postures

  • Organizing standing, seated, supported, and inversion practices

  • Including appropriate cool-down postures and relaxation

  • Preparing sample Yoga with Ropes sequences

5. Therapeutic Applications — 2 Hours

  • Using ropes to support therapeutic movement

  • Supporting spinal decompression and mobility

  • Addressing common physical restrictions

  • Exploring applications for the shoulders, hips, knees, and spine

  • Using ropes and additional props together

  • Understanding the scope and limitations of therapeutic applications

  • Recognizing when a participant should be referred to a healthcare professional

6. Teaching Methodology — 2 Hours

  • Effective verbal communication and instructional cues

  • Demonstrating rope placement clearly

  • Observing participants and recognizing unsafe movement

  • Providing options and variations

  • Understanding hands-on adjustments and assists

  • Maintaining professional boundaries and consent

  • Managing safety in a group-class environment

7. Teaching Practice — 3 Hours

  • Participants take turns leading short Yoga with Ropes sequences

  • Practising verbal instruction and demonstrations

  • Offering modifications and variations

  • Developing observation and class-management skills

  • Receiving constructive feedback

  • Fine-tuning teaching skills and confidence

8. Complimentary Yoga with Ropes Sessions — 2 Hours

Participants will attend two complimentary Yoga with Ropes sessions at Kevala Yoga to experience the practice in a regular class environment.

These sessions will support:

  • Practical observation

  • Personal experience of class sequencing

  • Understanding how instructions are delivered

  • Observing modifications and class management

  • Integration of the training material

Total Training Hours: 20 Hours

  • Introduction: 1 hour

  • Types of Yoga Ropes: 2 hours

  • Postures and Alignment: 6 hours

  • Sequencing: 2 hours

  • Therapeutic Applications: 2 hours

  • Teaching Methodology: 2 hours

  • Teaching Practice: 3 hours

  • Complimentary Studio Sessions: 2 hours

Total: 20 hours

Certification and Continuing Education

Upon successfully completing the training requirements, participants will receive a 20-Hour Yoga with Ropes Teacher Training Certificate of Completion from Kevala Yoga.

Kevala Yoga is a registered Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider, and eligible training hours may be applied towards Yoga Alliance Continuing Education requirements.

This training provides participants with comprehensive knowledge to practise Yoga with Ropes and lead introductory Yoga with Ropes sessions safely and confidently.

Please note that individual studios and organizations may have their own teaching requirements. Some studios may require instructors to hold a foundational 200-hour yoga teacher training certification in addition to this specialized certificate.
